TORONTO, July 5, 2011 /CNW/ - Intact Financial Corporation (TSX:IFC) announced today that it has obtained a receipt for a final short form base shelf prospectus that will allow the company to offer up to $2.5 billion in any combination of debt, preferred or common share securities, subscription receipts, warrants, share purchase contracts and units over the next 25 months. This prospectus replaces a similar one filed in May 2009, which expired last month.

Intact also announced that it has filed a supplement to its base shelf prospectus to establish a medium term note (MTN) program that would allow the company to issue up to $750 million in unsecured medium term notes.

The nature, size and timing of any financings under the base shelf prospectus or the MTN prospectus supplement will depend on Intact's assessment of its funding requirements and general market conditions. When securities covered by the base shelf prospectus or the MTN supplement are offered for sale, a prospectus supplement or a pricing supplement containing terms of these securities will be provided. Unless otherwise specified in the prospectus supplement or pricing supplement, Intact will use the net proceeds from the sale of securities for general corporate purposes.
